no audio when playing .mts file using QuickTime or VLC

I downloaded AVCHD video–file from camcorder. I can view individual clips using QuickTime. Then I went into /BDMV/STREAM directory with individual .mts files and tried to play them using QuickTime or VLC. Video is O.K., but there is no audio. Same files downloaded into FCPX have audio.

My question is: how to play individual .mts files from /AVCHD/BDMV/STREAM/ directory without converting them into .mov or other format?
