Can't use Flex Time to fix simple drumming errors

I can't get to grips with Flex Time. I'm trying to fix some simple drumming errors where the drummer was a half beat late on some accents but when I try to turn on Flex Time it moves all the beats out of time before I can begin to adjust anything. It doesn't seem to matter what mode or quantisation I set.

I don't find the manual to be of any help, can anyone suggest anything?

I'm quite new to Logic Pro but have recorded/arranged/produced successfully with Garage Band since 2005.

Mac Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Michael,

it sounds like you have Quantize enabled on that Track. In that case Logic automatically moves the Flex Markers to the chosen grid. You have to turn Quantize off and manually move the Flex Markers to the position you want.

Although the Flex feature is easy to use, there are a few things you have to understand to use it properly and avoid any confusion. In my Logic book "Logic Pro X - The Details", I explain the Flex feature in great details with all the information you need to understand what is going on.

I also posted an blog post on the Logic Pro Export site that discusses the different types of (slightly confusing) Flex Markers

Hope that helps

Thanks Edgar

After some reading around similar problems on the forum I discovered that songs with tempo changes (which mine has) can cause problems with Flex Time.

Since all the errors I needed to fix were in a section at one tempo, I exported the drum audio to a new project file which was set to that tempo throughout and was able to get Flex Time to do what I wanted there, then exported the corrected tracks back into my original project. The results aren't perfect but in the mix you don't notice the small glitches.

Your blog on the Flex Markers looks very useful, as does the book, which I may treat myself to when there's some spare cash.

Thanks again

Michael
