Mail:IMAP:folders on an iPhone
How do I (or can I) view the same folders on an iPhone as I see on my desktop?

Tap first on the account name (not "All inboxes"). Tap on the folder name.

I appreciate the help BUT was I supposed to see the folder there? I ask as I didn't.
You should see all of the folders there. Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Junk, Trash plus any other folders defined on the account. I see them all. You need to tap on the account name below the Accounts heading, not the listing at the top, which is the Inbox only.
Right-I get it but I didn't see all of them just the ones you named, so I put others down there manually. Was that wrong? But it would only accept a certain amount-which seems screwy to me.
The folders will be replicated only if they are on the IMAP server. If you have folders on your computer that are "local" they will not sync.
OK so I do I need to create them or should they've automatically appeared there?
They should automatically appear, as long as the are synced to the IMAP server. It's possible to have mail folders on your computer that do not sync, so make sure these folders sync. They should be listed indented under the name of the account on your computer.
Apparently most folders are not synced already. So what do i to need to do to get them synced? Sorry to ask what might be obvious questions, but...
Need some more details. What kind of computer, what mail client program are you using, what mail service provider?

BTW are you a Larry, like me, or a Lawrence? Whenever my mother said Lawrence I knew I was in big, big trouble! l,l,l
Yes, I'm usually Larry. And I had the same experience with my mother.
In Apple Mail if you look in the bar on the left you should see a heading called "Mailboxes", then under that Inbox with one inbox for each email account (if you only have one account that will be pretty simple; I have 10 different email addresses).
If you look further down you should see Flagged, Sent, Junk, Trash, maybe Archive, Smart Mailboxes and you might see an entry with the name of your email account. Below that you should see a heading On My Mac. If your folders are listed under that heading that's why they are not syncing.
To fix it right click on the Inbox and choose New Mailbox. Create one with any name; Test is good enough. This should add an entry with the name of the account, and it should have under it the Test that you just created.
You can now just click and drag the folders to the new heading that Test belongs to and they should sync.
Note that if the folders are already listed under a heading for your account then there's a different problem that we have to troubleshoot.
I setup the mailboxes just as you explained (I hope)-see screen shot. And all seemed to be right last night. But when I opened things this morning there were several new emails and none of them went, either on the iMac or on the iPhone, into the new mailboxes that had been created although they did continue to go into the old mailboxes. (The mailbox now named IMAP-iPhone had previously been named Test.)
Did I misunderstand your directions or your explanation about what would happen? They seemed quite clear.
You have the folders as sub-folders to IMAP-iPhone. Try dragging one and dropping it on the nyc.rr.com label.
Do the folders appear on your iPhone? Does IMAP-iPhone appear on your phone?
Yes I'm doing that with a few folders (I haven't moved all folders yet) and that does change things on both the iMac and the iPhone and yes IMAP-iPhone still appears as it was. But mail I received earlier in the day doesn't make the move. Is that as it should be?
On your Mac right click on any folder and choose "Synchronize." That may bring in the older messages. If it doesn't try clicking once on a folder, then go to the Mailbox menu in Apple Mail and choose "rebuild". Note that folders on the iPhone won't download until you open them. This is different from Inbox, which will download as soon as you open the Mail app on the iPhone.
