iPhoto 9.6 deleted all photos in 2 of my albums -- any way to recover?

Help! I'm using iPhoto 9.6 and Yosemite 10.10.2. I opened iPhoto today to find that all the photos in 2 of my albums were gone. The empty albums are there, just no photos. All my other albums/photos are fine. Does anyone know if there's a way to recover the 2 albums? I haven't updated anything recently or moved any files or anything like that. Thanks!

Are the photos still in the event?

Where is your iphoto library located? If on an external drive what format is it (it must be Mac OS extended (journaled) ) and how is it connected to your Mac?

No, the photos are not in the event. They're completely gone. The albums where they used to be are there though. My library is just on my macbook, not an external.
