MacOS X Mavericks - Trash won't open

Hello Support Community,

I am running OS X 10.10.2 on a Macbook Air 2011.

For a while now, I can't open the Trash folder through clicking the Dock icon. Unfortunately, I can't remember when it startet or what may have caused it.

Also, when no finder window is open, by clicking on the Finder icon in the Dock, a blank window will open. It has the standard navigation bar at the top with the buttons to close and resize, but the rest is in a grey tint. When right-clicking on the Finder icon and then selecting "New Finder Window", a normal and functioning window appears.

The following things work:

- Emptying the trash

- Deleting files

- Access the Trash folder via Finder "Go to Folder... '~/.trash'" (and it also shows all containing Files)

The following doesn't help:

- Restarting the Finder (Including System Restart)

- Restarting the Dock (Including System Restart)

Any suggestions?

Regards

I've asked the hosts to move your post.

Do a backup.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
