how to save a magnified image in Aperture or IPhoto

This is a hard question to answer well. Rather than my assuming too much from your post, let's just start with a question: how did you magnify an Image in Aperture?

Aperture, like most (all?) modern databases, does not have a "save" command. All of your changes are saved automatically.

Could you post a screen-shot or otherwise verify this? I've been using Aperture for several years, several hours a day — I'm an Aperture Certified Pro — and I have, to the best of my memory, never seen "File ▹ Save" in Aperture.
