If I turn off my iMessage will I receive messages sent to me when I turn it back on?

Question

If I turn off my iMessage will I receive messages sent to me when I turn it back on?

I currently keep in contact with someone who's out of my country through iMessage and FaceTime . when this person has meetings they turn it off or on do not disturb so they don't get messages. When they turn this back on will they receive my messages I have sent through iMessage? (My phone says they have been sent as text message, while my Mac they are blue but not delivered) Thanks for any help you can offer!

No. It's a bad idea to turn iMessage on and off, as it can take a day or more to register the change in the iMessage server. If you don't want to be interrupted do not turn off iMessage; instead turn on Do Not Disturb.
