How does iCloud Drive work with apps?

I use some apps that work with iCloud Drive, like Goodreader, but the app files don't show up on my mac in the Finder/iCloud Drive. Both iPhone and Mac using same apple ID. So, should the files on my iPhone in iCloud Drive be accessible on my mac? And if so, any ideas how to get it working? Thanks for the help.🙂
