1st time using a Mac and just want to install Text Wrangler app
Keeps asking for Apple I.D and then i get this:
This Apple ID has not yet been used with the App Store.
So i cannot install it from the App Store

Yes but it forces me to add a credit card before i can finish the setup and download free apps.

Which home screen? There are dozens and none of them have a settings tab.
Can't be done without using a credit card.
Apple is forcing users to add a credit card so you cannot download free apps without first adding your credit card details.
Thats called Product Forcing and is against the law in Australia.
I'm filing a formal complaint to the Australian Consumer Commission.

Do you already have an Apple ID or you are creating a new one?
If the latter, you can select "none" as payment following the guide at the link I posted.

Can't be done. Just spoke with them and there's no way to download free apps without adding a credit card.
