Stolen phone keeps trying to reset my appleID

My old phone conveniently got lost in the post but now I keep getting password reset emails for my Apple ID. Someone is obviously trying to get into my account on the old phone. What can I do? I've reset the password once to something more complicated but feel like my account is at risk because they keep attempting to get in. All advice appreciated. Thanks
