I am restoring my ipad, directions say to disable find my ipad, but i cannot access my ipad to do this,,is there another way

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! If Find my [Device] is enabled on your iPad, but you are unable to disable it, you can restore your device in recovery mode:

Please keep in mind that once the device has been restored, you will still be prompted for the Apple ID configured for activation lock (find my device):
