They are the iCloud ID and password for the account used to set up iCloud and find my iPhone on the device.
If you bought it used and it's locked with the previous owner's account, contact them and ask them to remove the lock.

i changed the password for the ipod it self...the 4 digtit code. it lagged on both times so i didnt know what it was. i then put numbers around what i attempted to do and now it says ipod is disabled connect to itunes and thats the bit which i would like you to help my with please

SStill not letting me back up to computer
No. You can't back it up if you can't remember the passcode and you've never synced it with that computer before. You will have to restore it. You will lose anything on it that was not backed up.
