The early 2008 model (8,1) cannot be upgraded beyond 4GB.

Give http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/ a try. They are one of the two top suppliers of Mac memory available. They have excellent customer support and warranty plans.
Thanks, I have looked at their website and it only show 2+2 - 4GB. I'll call them tomorrow with a view to asking if I can upgrade to 6 or 8GB.
Hi, I did notice this and I was going to phone them tomorrow with a view to confirming 2 + 4 GB. You have now confirmed this for me and so I'll order one of each.

Very late response but yes you can upgrade to 6GB using 2x4GB. I got the memory spec of the OWC site then used customer service at Crucial to confirm the right RAM and it works fine.
They only list 4GB as it the official limit. They pointed out that the warranty meant I could return the RAM if it didn't work.
