is my Apple ID the same as my email? I recently changed emails and now have problems

I changed emails. my Ipad still shows the old email when I try to go to itunes. what do I need to change to get it to work. When I try to update it, it asks for two secret questions and I only have a record of one of them so I can't go further.....help!

iPad 2, iOS 8.1.1
