how can I import iMovie events from an old iMovie version into iMovie10

how can I import iMovie events from an old iMovie version into iMovie10?

i have many old iMovie events & projects on an old laptop. When I try to include these into my new iMovie10 library using 'import', the system does not recognise the 'events' but only the clips. This means I will loose all the editing etc. we did on these old events.
