Can't use movie recording to record my iPad air 2 screen

I'm trying to record my iPad Air 2 screen. I use the lightning usb cable to connect the iPad. I then open quicktime, and select new movie recording. I change the input from iMac camera to the iPad. I can see my iPad screen on my iMac screen. I start the recording, then stop when I am finished. Only approximately 10 seconds gets saved each time? Once in a blue moon it will record the entire thing, but 9 out of 10 times it trims it down to 10 seconds. What's happening, I really need this to work!?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), Quicktime and iPad Air 2

I have no logical explanation as to why this works, but it does... try using a different lightning cable. I had the same 10 second video problem and read about this cable solution on another forum. I borrowed a cable from a co-worker and was able to record as long as I wanted to.

I have a similar issue. When I go to select my ipad to record on there is no option there for my ipad only facetime. I am running the correct softwares and have made sure that my ipad shows up on itunes.
