I am still not receiving points for levelling up, I have clicked the "this helped me" and have not received any points at all.
Is this normal?

Yes, you are marking your own posts as Helpful, or Solved. This will NOT gain you any points.

The way to get points is to answer someone else question in a manner that they find helpful so that they will award you points.
Yes. You don't get points for leveling up. You don't get points by clicking on Solved or Helped buttons. You only get points if you help another user with their problem and THEY give you points.

Nope, your clicking of Niel's response awarded Niel 5 points.
It doesn't give you points when you do it yourself. If someone else chooses to click it on one of your posts, it will.
