How to get Photos off a broken iPhone5?

hello, around a year ago I dropped my iPhone 5 on wood flooring. The screen itself never cracked, but the screen glitches, changes different colors, and I am unable to get it to unlock. Therefore, my computer will not recognize the device. I didn't have an iCloud account, so I can't get the photos from there. Is there any other way to access my device through my computer and retrieve pictures? I'm not really tech savvy, so any help would be great!
