Early 2009 DVD won't read or eject

I have an early 2009, 20-inch iMac. running OS X Yosemite 10.10

I put in a CD or DVD in the drive, and the system does not recognize it - doesn't play.

When I attempt to eject (using keyboard, using Command-E, ejecting from iTunes - nothing happens.

Now DVD is iMac - how do I eject?

How do I deal with system not recognizing when inserted?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10), 8 GB Memory

Restart your computer while holding down the mouse button. This will force eject anything in the drive.

You can also open up terminal and enter drutil tray eject.
