I understand what the issue is, its that it doesnt have anything to boot up from. Unfortunately ive misplaced the startup disk that came with it, so is it possible to download all the necessary files onto a blank disk and use that?

its about 4 years old, i think the version it was on was 10.5.8
That version can not be downloaded from the web.
You need to install CD for it.
You might want to purchase from Apple the Snow Leopard install DVD and upgrade the version of OS X your Mac is running.
