More than 2 partitions with Yosemite 10.10.2 ?

Hi,

I recently bought a new imac 21.5 inch, running Yosemite 10.10.2.

Imac Model 14,3

Processor speed 3,1 GHz Intel Core 17

Memory 16 Go 1600 MHz DDR3

I'm used to make three partitions on my internal disk; I do so with my external disk which becomes a mirror of my internal disk.

From my external drive, running Yosemite and using Disk utility, I tried to create 3 partitions on my internal disk. No way!

The disk utility allowed me to make only 2 partitions...

I would like to know why and if there is a trick to override Yosemite limitation .

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

With a Fusion Drive, you can only add 1 additional partition.

Can I add a partition to the hard disk with Fusion Drive?

Using Disk Utility, you can add one partition to the hard disk on Fusion Drive. Once you add the partition, the "plus" symbol in Disk Utility to add additional partitions will be grayed out. You cannot partition the Flash storage.

If I create a hard disk partition is it part of Fusion Drive?

The additional partition is not part of Fusion Drive. The new partition is a separate volume that is physically located on the hard disk drive.

You're welcome; FWIW, I had a fusion drive for a week (a refurb iMac which had multiple power problems, so it was returned as a DOA); returning it to its factory installed OS without the second partition I had created turned into somewhat of a headache. The replacement iMac does not have a fusion drive, thank goodness.
