Itunes is unable to locate lost music.

I have a lot of missing music files on my iTunes there all on my computer just not in iTunes, when i click on one of the files and it asks me to locate it all i have to do is type in the song name click it and comes back in my library, it then asks if i would like to find the rest of my missing files (over 1000) i say yes, the problem is it just simply says that iTunes was not able to locate any of the 1000 missing files, but i know for a fact that there all on my computer in my music file, i have no desire to individually locate each of my 1000 songs 1 by 1, and i don't want to reimport my iTunes library because i don't want to lose my ratings on my songs please help.
