does applecare cover failed harddrives?

Getting worried about whether or not my harddrive would fail on my 2013 macbook pro so i was wondering if applecare would cover that?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

AppleCare covers defects in materials and workmanship for the three year period. Anything that "wears out" is in that category. Anything that got smashed is not a defect in materials or workmanship.


So YES, a failed hard drive would be covered.


If you do not already have a Trusted Backup, that is a much more urgent issue that whether Apple will pay for the new drive, if needed.
