I messed something up with my Macbook, and when i boot it up it shows a folder with a question mark over it. I pop in the bootup disk, but it doesnt read it. I held down the option key, and only "Macintosh HD" is there. Am i doing something wrong?

Macs can only boot from the disc that shipped with them new, utility discs that are newer than those discs, and retail non-system specific discs (i.e. no OEM, no Mac model, no Update/Upgrade label on disc) that are newer than them. Are you sure you have an appropriate disc for booting? Is the machine plugged in to external power?
Its plugged in and everything. I do not have the original disk but i do have a disk containing the proper boot-up files.
Where did you get the disc with "the proper boot up files"?
If you have an install disk that is not a retail install disk. Then the disk has to be machine specific to your macbook no matter what the os version on the disk is. You cannot boot from an imac disk to macbook. The only disk that apple sells that you could use is the retail snow leopard disk. If you want the original install disk for your macbook some one else many give you a lead on that.
