Mac wont boot up from disk

I messed something up with my Macbook, and when i boot it up it shows a folder with a question mark over it. I pop in the bootup disk, but it doesnt read it. I held down the option key, and only "Macintosh HD" is there. Am i doing something wrong?

If you have an install disk that is not a retail install disk. Then the disk has to be machine specific to your macbook no matter what the os version on the disk is. You cannot boot from an imac disk to macbook. The only disk that apple sells that you could use is the retail snow leopard disk. If you want the original install disk for your macbook some one else many give you a lead on that. Need to know what year and model and what operating system you are running. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
