Finder beachball on server interruptions

I'm having some oddball issues with a 27" iMac i7 14,2

We have three of these machines in a print production environment, (along with some lesser used 10.5 and 10.6 machines) and this problem only appears on mine, one of the 14,2s. From time to time I'll have a server dropout (usually an hour after I arrive for work, often again through the day) which is sometimes a server dropout that affects the other macs too. They seem to handle recovery a lot more gracefully though, as they'll have the finder popup that lets them know the server has disconnected, and no other real effect.

Mine however, just beachballs every app using a file on the server. Typically that's finder, indesign, illustrator, and photoshop.

Sometimes, after some time beachballing (from 5 to 30 minutes) the same little popup tells me the server has disconnected, I'll dismiss it and all will be well. The adobe apps will recover all I've been working on and I'll go about my day. Mostly though, it'll just stay beachballing and I'll have no option but to force restart. It's about a fifty-fifty chance on a restart that I'll recover what I've been working on.

We have a G5 running OSX Server as the AFP server we're connecting to. It's due for replacement very soon. We have no server issues with the older 10.5 Macs.

Logs when the beachballing is occuring have plenty of this throughout:

I started browsing to write this post after the second occurence today happened 11:31AM, and noticed Illustrator and Finder started responding again right around 11:45AM.

Any clues? I can post the entire log entries from approx 11:31 when it began beachballing until 11:45am if that's any help.
