How do I add a date countdown to a Numbers cell?

I want to add a cell to a Numbers Spreadsheet that will countdown to a specific date, and return the result in number of days remaining. Is this possible? I'm brand new to function writing so I'll need you to be fairly specific. Thank you for your patience. Also, if there is a good guide to using Numbers Spreadsheets out there, I would love to have that recommendation as well. I learn well from textbooks.

In cell B1 enter the target date.

B3=B1−NOW()

this is shorthand for... select cell B3, then type (or copy and paste from here) the formula:

=B1−NOW()

add then checkbox. anytime you click the checkbox (or change any cell) then remaining time will update

Something like this:

User uploaded file

Table 1 A1 Remaining B1 =DUR2DAYS(D1-TODAY()) C1 days till D1 2015-05-05

* Table is built in Numbers v2.

Regards,

H

PS. As for reference materials, here's ones for Numbers v2. I don't know about later versions.
