Is Samsung 850 EVO SSD compatible with an early 2009 MBP running Yosemite?

Can I replace my 320 GB hard-drive by an aftermarket Samsung 850 EVO SSD 500 GB in my MacBook Pro 17in early (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3)?
