How can I check if sata connector is working?

Hi!

I have macbook bro mid 2009 MB991LL with HDD 1Tb and SDD instead of CDROM.

Recently my HDD stopped working. So I can't see it in Disk Utility. I changed hdd cable (cable was from macbook pro 2011, but this doesn't matters) - didn't help. So, I afraid my sata connector doesn't work proper. What can I do? If sata connector is broken I need to replace motherboard?

Thanks.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), 8Gb, SSD 80Gb, HDD 1Tb

More often than not it will be the cable. By replacing it with a known good one is the best way I know of testing. Fortunately the cable is nit expensive.

You could run the Apple Hardware Test that checks the SATA connection:

Note an error free AHT is not definitive.

An appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation might be beneficial.

Ciao.
