Good Morning anishmenon,

The resource below will provide some steps to address the issue you are having with the display on your MacBook Pro.

Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201177

If you continue to have issues with brightness or color uniformity, check the Displays System Preferences pane. Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Displays from the View menu. From the preference pane you can adjust brightness on internal and Apple external displays on the Displays Tab, and calibrate your display from the Color tab.

If you tried all of these steps for your display and the video issues persist, contact Apple technical support or take your Apple computer to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).

Regards,

- Judy

First try these resets:

Reset SMC

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

Reset NVRAM

http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

If those don't help then this sounds like it could be a video chip issue.

There is a recall on this model. Run your serial number here:

Apple Recall:"

https://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/

If it's in the pool of recalls take it to the Apple Store for testing. Make them run the ASD past the point where you get the white out.

if your problem is still exist, you have to repair it under "MacBook pro repair program for video issue". see:

http://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro-videoissues/

I have encountered the same problem, and I had to wait for a year and a half until Apple recognizes the existence of this defect in the MacBook Pro 15-inch device early 2011 and replaced Logic Board.
