QuickTime Player (repeatedly) unexpectedly quit - OS X 10.10.2

QuickTime Player, running on OS X 10.10.2 (Yosemite), MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010), 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3.

Just recently I've found QuickTime Player will not open for me - each time I try to open it I get the error: "QuickTime Player unexpectedly quit". Ignoring the error causes it to crash. I cannot check what version of QuickTime Player I have as it does not stay open for long enough to check.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
