Mac mail will not delete messages from inbox

I am running OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.2 and Mac Mail version 8.2 on a MacBook Pro.

I can no longer delete messages from the inbox. When I select the message and click the delete button, nothing happens. Same result if I right click and delete.

Can anyone help??
