The option to make custom labels on my iPhone 5S, 7.1.2, is not available. I am not sure when this option quit being available, but I used to use a lot and its a pain not to have it. Any ideas on how to get it back? Thanks!

It's there for me in iOS 8.1.3...
Custom labels on contacts, specifically for phone numbers. I am not yet able to upgrade my OS because of space issues, but may tackle that next. Thanks for any help on this!
It's there in iOS 7, I've been using labels since iOS 6 for phone numbers in contacts, the screenshot is in reference to that... just tap the type and use the custom accordingly.
As for space, archive your old photos and apps you rarely use. Clean up the mail accounts and then you should be good.
