I get a dialog box saying I have had an apparent suspicious activity and I should update safari and it wants me to click on OK. It freezes all other activity. My only option is to force quit safari. I have shut down but when I reopen and open Safari it is there.

Reopen Safari with the Shift key held down. If that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.

You downloaded some Adware. Please download and run AdwareMedic from http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php
unfortunately when reopening using shift I still go the box. I disconnected from the internet using the fan up in the menu, but then of course could not open Safari at all. I reconnected but box is still there. I am using Chrome to get on line and into support community.
Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide ~/Library/ as the path, and rename Safari to Safari_old.
