streaming video from iPad to tv

This is very weird, the other night i was looking up something and came across an instructional video, I've streamed from my pad before but through apple tv, this time at the top of the video, it gave an option to stream to my samsung tv..It actually said that, never did before, cant get it to do it again.. even on the same video it cant get it to work.. This is just so weird and confusing... Any ideas out there as to what happened and maybe how to get it to happen again
