First reboot. It's helpful to reboot every couple of days to clear out cache and temp files.

Next, the biggest culprit is CleanMyMac2. It's considered malware around here. Uninstall it according to the developer's instructions, How To Uninstall CleanMyMac 2? Complete Removal of ... However, to confirm that it has actually removed all of the files download and run Find Any File to search for any files with "the application's' name" and the "developer's name" in the file name. For example for CleanMyMac you'd do two searches:

1 - Name contains "cleanmymac"

2 - Name contains "macpaw"

Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop for deletion.

FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.

I noticed that you are using the ZipCloud backup. If it's backing up constantly that could also be contribution to the slowdown. Also be warned that you can use any cloud backup for iPhoto Libraries. The format of the servers for cloud backups are not compatible with the iPhoto Library's structure and will irrevocably damage the library when restored.

Thanks OT,

I was wondering about CleanMyMac2. I uninstalled it and ran FAF as you suggested, which ultimately produced about 18 other files that I deleted. I checked my ZipCloud and it's only updating one a date and runs for about 3 minutes (on average).

To me it looks like there is plenty of storage, but this computer is getting to be an older machine. Would I get any benefit out of adding some RAM?

Thanks,

Sarah

P.S. After completing your suggestions I did reboot . . . and things are decidedly more zippy. Hopefully, things stay that way. It seems like I get the computer running smoothly only to have it bog down the next afternoon.
