How do I reset my iPhone 4S without connecting to iCloud?

Hi!

I got a new iPhone because this one (4s) is old and broken and does not connect to wifi (and therefore iCloud) anymore. The SIM card has been deactivated and I do not have service. I would like to erase all content and settings before disposing of the old phone.

I've already synced my new phone with my last iCloud update, and deleted the old phone from iCloud (from the new device) so I had the space to backup my new phone.

I followed all the recommended steps to reset/delete data, but, obviously, I get the "Verification Failed - There was an error connecting to iCloud message" after I enter my Apple ID password.

So, how do I delete my content without connecting to iCloud?
