Iphone does not play correct notification tone when receiving text messages

For some reason my iPhone is not playing the correct text notification tone. I've gone to May setting and double checked it and it is set on the correct one. But it continues to notify me with the default "Note" sound. It has done this in the past and I have logged out of iCloud and logged back in and it fixed it. I shouldn't have to do that. Especially since it removes the cards I have saved for Apple pay. Any ideas on how this can be fixed?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.1.3

Hi trekkie1490,

If you are having issues with your iPhone not playing the correct sound when receiving a text message, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.

First, quit all running applications and test again -

Force an app to close in iOS

Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -

Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

I've restated my phone quite a few times with no luck. I tried signing out from iCloud and signing back in and that didn't fix it like it did before. I closed all of my apps as well. I guess I'll try restoring my phone. Thanks for the help.
