iTunes HD Playback on TV

When I purchase a HD movie through iTunes, it plays back on my MacBook Pro fine, but when I plug my MacBook into a TV via a HDMI cable, the playback on the TV is often "choppy". Just a little bit, but enough to notice. The audio is fine.

I've seen a few similar posts on here, but none with a real answer that I could see. My question is, would this most likely be caused by my video card or MacBook not being powerful enough? Or another reason?

My specs are:

Macbook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011)

Processor: 2.4GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Display: Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB

The problem still exists whether I use desktop mirroring or not, and whether I use iTunes or Quicktime. I also have a high quality HDMI cable, and have tried it on two different TV's with same result. I never have any other Applications running at the same time, and am using Yosemite 10.10.2

Any clues on what could be causing this?

Cheers

Graeme
