Is 36 hours remaining time to backup my Iphone normal?

I upgraded my storage to 200GB so that I could backup my phone and free up space to upgrade to iOS 8. I have never backed up before and realize it could take quite a while to do so, but I'm I missing something here or? Also...Is it OK to use my phone while backup is in progress? Thank You In Advance!
