Mail has stopped working

My mail was working yesterday, I turned off my computer and when I restarted it the mail no longer worked. The error message says "The server 'pop3.live.com' cannot be contacted on port 995'. I haven't made any other changes, does anyone know what I need to do?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
