My MacBook Pro (os x 10.7.5) sound goes weird.

When watching tv through my MacBook Pro (and sometimes other videos/dvds) the sound will suddenly go weird for a few seconds, then it reverts to normal. This can happen 2 or 3 times in an hour, but rarely in the first 20 minutes.

I'm pretty sure it is not BBC iplayer as it doesn't happen with the Mac (although the Mac has been updated to the latest version, which I detest)

Greetings Greml,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you are having some sporadic sound issues while watching video on your MacBook Pro. One troubleshooting step I would recommend would be to reset the NVRAM on your computer. Please use the instructions located in the attached article to complete this process.
