Is it true apple still replace the front panel covering the keyboard on older macbooks?

Hi, I recently purchased an old Macbook (specifically the Macbook 1, 1 from early 2006).

It is in perfect condition other than the fact that the edge of the front panel had come off in certain places leaving a minor gap between the side
of the notebook and the panel covering the keyboard.

I hadn't noticed this until a friend who also owned a macbook from the same era pointed out that it shouldn't look like that.
He also went on to tell me that Apple will replace the panel for free?

Seeing as the notebook is almost 9 years old I sort of doubt that.

If anyone could elaborate on this I would appreciate it as my nearest apple store is a quite a long way away.
