i I have what I think is ADWARE....
a Message box pops up to say" phone this number because I have a virus on my Mac..."
and nd when I phone to ask about the cost was told £75 at least ....
i Didn't take the offer.....
but apparently you you can download free apps to get rid of this....
something called "ADWARE MEDIC" just wondering if this is safe???

That is a tech support scam. You should not call the number, but since you did, hopefully you did not give them remote access to your computer! If you did, your computer is compromised and will need to be erased. See:
This is not usually caused by adware, but that's certainly not impossible. If you believe you may have adware, AdwareMedic is perfectly safe. However, if you cannot bring yourself to trust a strange app - which would be perfectly reasonable - you can use the equivalent manual removal instructions in my Adware Removal Guide.
