transferring contacts from android to iphone

Just bought iPhone 5s and need to transfer my contacts from my android. Can I use a sim adaptor and put the iphone sim into the android, copy the contacts to it then put the sim back into the iphone or will that damage the sim so it won't work in the iphone or will the iphone not recognise the format the contacts are in anyway?

I know I could sync with google on the android and transfer that way but I have an in-built hatred of anything google so would rather not if I can help it.
