Contact name shows up in text message if you search for the name but is not in the contacts

I have a user who has an IPhone 6. He has a contact that if he searches for her name in his text messages it will show her name and phone number. If he looks for the text messages he exchanges with her it only shows her name. She is also not in the contact list. Why does it show her name if he searches for the number in the text message but does not anywhere else? he is curious and thinks something is wrong with his phone so i am trying to help out.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.3

The information is still in the Messages app cache. There's nothing wrong with the phone.

Thank you Meg St._Clair. Is there a way to clear it so that he knows that is the answer. I know that is the next question i will be asked.

If the names appear when he is typing the "To:" box, they should have an "i" in a blue circle to the right. He can tap that and tap "Remove from Recents". Eventually, it will be overwritten in the cache anyway.

One final question. What is the "i" and why do only certain contacts have that?

The "i" stands for, I assume, "Information". It is only an option for names that are not stored in Contacts. Names that are stored in Contacts can be accessed though "Details" at the top of a message thread with them. Or, of course, in the Contacts section of the Phone app.
