Usb Snow Lepoard Not Working

I recently bought a snow lepoard install/recovery usb key from amazon. After plugging it in, Holding down alt/option nothing appears apart from the hard drive. Is there something im doing wrong or is the snow lepoard too new to work from a usb key? Ive plugged it into my windows laptop and it is called EFI and shows 196mb remaining of 196mb. It is an 8gb toshiba flash drive. If you need to know the laptop is the 2006/2007 non unibody macbook pro upgraded to what i belive to be the newest it can handle. (in other words i dont know) But am i doing something wrong? are there any other commands i can try?
