I use dose applications fairly often. Why are they being removed now? Is there a way of getting them back?

From what apps is this feature being removed? Contact the developers of those apps and ask them.
From the article you cited: "Apple says it only accepts medical dosage information submitted by the medicine’s manufacturer. Apple appears to be taking a more active role in determining whether a medical app is providing trustworthy information."
Interesting. Is there a way to make them reconsider this policy, because frankly, it doesn't sound very sensible.
