my mom was web browsing on Her ipad last night and got the attached message box from "alert-eu.com" saying there's a virus. Done a little googling about it but couldn't find anything, is it anything to be worried about on an iPad?

IIt is a false alert. Have your mom clear her History & Website Data (Settings->Safari) & make sure Block Pop-Ups & Fraudulent Website Warning is turned on.
Is her iPad jailbroken? What iOS version is her iPad running? What website was she looking at when she got the message? My guess is the site she was browsing is either compromised or a bad site. Bad guys may be using the website to launch their malware attack.
This is a scam.
There's no virus on iPad unless your iPad is jailbroken.
