Photos from March 1 and later will not download to Windows PC

Downloaded photos to my Windows machine yesterday, but photos taken by the Apple Camera app on March 1 and after did not download. When I looked at iPhone using Windows Explorer, there are no jpgs of March 1 and later photos, only AAE extension and they are much, much smaller - 100 to 200 k versus 1.5 to 2.0 MB. Anyone know what's happening?
