done everything what was needed and it was all going fine until I got this far.

it has been stuck at this point for 6 hours and nothing seems to be happening , I can hear the eve spin up and then slow down.

can I switch it off and start again as the hard drive was wiped before the new install.

There is a possibility the internal hard disk drive has failed.

A diagnostic testing interval by an expert or store genius at

an Apple authorized service provider or Apple Store may

be a direction to consider. If you have access to Apple Store

the one near you may offer a genius bar, by appointment...

For older computers no longer under AppleCare and outside

the normal range of repair at a Store, you may get a diagnostic

and estimate for the cost to repair the item; even though they

may not be able to do so through the official Store. Usually an

older Apple product may be tested & repaired through an AASP

or authorized service provider, for their usual fee rates + parts.

So that may something to check into.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
